July 26th Gayle Davies Jandrey comes to d'Vinery for A Taste of Wine and Words
A Garden of Aloes is a story told in the voices of five women, all of whom do what they must to get by. All prove to be survivors, and each has a distinct voice. Though an unlikely cast of characters, they manage to form their own family unit and rise, supportively, from individual isolation after severing ties with their painful pasts, by putting one foot in front of the other as they rebuild their collective lives.
The Tucson Weekly called A Garden of Aloes a "suspenseful page-turner and an intimate tear-jerker. A Garden of Aloes is truly a remarkable first effort."
After a busy summer's day, stop by d'Vinery and chat with Gayle over a taste of Eagle Creek Wine.
Gayle will be there on July 26th from 5:00-6:00 pm for A Taste of Wine and Words - the perfect chance to sip a bit of wine while talking books, writing, or anything that might intrigue you about this captivating new book while at Eagle Creek's Front Street tasting room, d'Vinery, across the street from Gustavs.
d'Vinery asks that $2.00 be paid for the evening's wine tasting. Your $2.00 can be credited towards the purchase of any bottle of Eagle Creek Wine.
For information, call 509-548-1451 or click here to send us an email!
4th of July weekend will mark the release of a brand new wine for Eagle Creek Winery.
Adler Weiss (German for Eagle White), is a white blend of Semillon, Riesling, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. This semi-sweet, flowery wine is just in time for the hot days of summer.
We will also be releasing our 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Bacchus Vineyards). If you liked the 2005 then you are going to love the 2006 with its rich ripe cherry and blackberry flavors.
And finally, the wait is over and we are releasing our 2006 Montage. This blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot has been our most popular wine ever. Three wines to celebrate the fourth!
Come meet Ed Rutledge (the winemaker) and the rest of the Eagle Creek family on Friday, July 11th, at the Annual Salmon Barbecue & Wine Tasting event at Icicle Village Resort. The event will be featuring Eagle Creek Winery and Tillicum Village Native American style salmon. Wine tasting starts at 6:00 pm and dinner is at 7:00 pm.
Price for adults: $22 per person. Wine Tasting $10: 4 tastings. For reservations call (800) 558-2438 or (509) 548-7000. We would love to see you there.
Joins Us for A Taste of Wine and Words
The Columbia and its tributaries are rivers of conflict. Amid pitched battles over the economy, the environment, and breaching dams on the lower Snake River, the salmon that have always quickened these rivers are disappearing. On a warm day in late May, Mike Barenti entered the heart of this conflict when he slid a whitewater kayak into the headwaters of central Idaho's Salmon River and started paddling toward the Pacific Ocean. This account of his two-month, nine-hundred-mile solo journey into the world of the Columbia basin plunges us into the adventure of navigating these troubled waterways.
"Mike Barenti's Kayaking Alone carried me like a river, but this is no passive traveler's tale. Barenti's knowledge of the Northwest makes this journey as intellectually engaging and rewarding as it is physically adventurous. In taking you down the river, this beautiful book takes you deep into narratives of humanity and nature -- and reminds you that they flow as one story."
Mike will be at d'Vinery with his new book, Kayaking Alone:Nine Hundred Miles from Idaho's Mountains to the Pacific Ocean Sunday Evening, June 29th, from 6:00-7:00pm, at d'Vinery 617-4A Front Street in Leavenworth across the street from Gustavs.
